Protecting Your Smile for a Lifetime
Periodontal disease, most commonly known as gum disease, is the most common dental problem facing patients. This infection attacks the gums and bone surrounding your teeth which leads to inflammation, tenderness and frequent bleeding. Gum disease is the result of too much plaque and bacteria and can be very painful.
Our first line of defense to prevent gum disease is regular check-ups and cleanings. These appointments give our hygiene team the chance to remove the plaque and bacteria before it can lead to an infection. Should a patient develop gum disease, the DCA team will work with you to develop a treatment plan and reduce the risk of future infections. If you are having pain or sensitivity in your gums, call us today to schedule an appointment.
With prompt treatment, it is possible to save your teeth. Untreated the disease can wear away the bones in your jaw.
Preventing gum disease:
- Maintain a basic, daily oral care routine including brushing twice daily, floss regularly, eat a balanced diet and quit smoking
- Visit your dentist regularly – we recommend every 6 months
- Contact DCA should your gums continue bleeding over several days.
We invite you to schedule your next appointment with Dental Care Associates.
